Fractional Soundscape
GRADE 3 STEAM
The different sounds heard in nature often weave together, creating a rich soundscape. Similarly, a musical piece is composed of different notes that work together, some longer or shorter than others. In this STEAM lesson, we will ask students to consider the alignment of a nature soundscape with the duration of notes as a way of demonstrating their understanding of fractions.

CCSS.MATH.3.NF.A1: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction as a/b as the quantity formed a parts of size 1/b.
