SPRINT 2, LESSON 3
Lesson Implementation Cycle
Video play time: 11:44
Today’s topic is one that is so important to the arts integration conversation: assessments. Lots of teachers are weary of assessing an arts integration lesson and it’s because of many different misconceptions. My goal for you today is to bust through those myths and help you know when and how to assess an arts integration lesson with integrity. Here’s what we’re going to cover:
• The purpose of assessment
• Why assessment and evaluation are not the same thing
• The difference between assessment FOR learning and assessment OF learning
• and the 8 Big Ideas for Assessment that will shape your arts integration lessons

Am i out of the loop to say….I’ve done grades for the grading period, anf “yes” its based on student Summative of learning over a period of time….. but I’ve never done Summative assessment for a UNIT or lesson. In Elementary Art…. we see students so infrequently and I shy away from overly addressing students. How can i apply Summative assessment to 1 of the 4 we are writing in this SPRINT 2. Am I missing something? Final Sprint 2 Project Outline #3 mentions this… .Thanks. perhaps I’m jumping my videos… and it will be covered in lesson 4. I’m trying….?

I love how you think ahead, Lisa. :) Yes – this is addressed MUCH more deeply in lessons 4 and 5. It will become clearer with the examples I share in those lessons. Also, if you look at the sprint project area and review the samples provided, you’ll see examples of formative assessments in those lessons. That will also help you put the pieces together. Formative doesn’t have to be hard or even alot. It can be a checklist or a simple 3-2-1 scale and take literally 2 minutes at the end of a lesson. If you’re still stuck, go to the Bonuses area and check out the Assessment for Makers course that you have access to. Go to Module 2 Lesson 3 and you’ll see bunches of examples you can modify and use.
Thank you…. you’re always so KIND! Assessment can be “My Friend!” I know I’ll master this in no time…. you always have the resources for Us. (Btw…. please feel free to delete my first reply… )
“If you teach it, you assess it.” I think if I ever decide to get a tattoo, this is what it is going to say. :-)
Haha, Karen! Yes, that’s an important phrase to remember! ?
Let’s all get this tattoo together! :)
