SPRINT 1
Project Overview
Project outline: For this project, you’ll create a set of curriculum maps for your grade level (elementary, middle or high) connecting ANY of these areas with the arts: math, science or reading standards.
For example, you may choose to create a set of math curriculum maps for grades 6-8. Or you may choose to create a set of reading and math curriculum maps for grades 6-8. Your project can be in any format (spreadsheet, PDF, web, etc) that you wish. However, you must include the following:
• 8-10 standards alignments in any content area you choose for the grade level in which you currently teach. If you teach 3rd grade, you’ll create a set of 3rd grade maps. If you’re a high school choral teacher, you’ll create a set of maps for all grades 9-12 connecting music with any of the other content areas. Make these maps meaningful by connecting them to your current content or grade. You can select the content area and arts area alignments you wish to make.
• You can include any arts area in your maps, but do use some variety. We want to see at least 3 different art forms (visual art, music, theater, dance, media arts) included in your maps. If you can have each of the art forms represented at some point, that’s even better. If you’re an arts teacher already, you’ll want to include at least 2 other arts areas – integrating your art form with another arts area – in your maps. Remember: not everyone connects with every art form. It’s important to have variety.
• An introduction for how to use the curriculum maps.
Sample Curriculum Maps
Below is a sample E/LA curriculum map for you in grade 3 that you can use as a model.
Please note: We’re not looking for beautiful design – we’re looking for high quality. Don’t feel like you should spend a lot of time making these maps pretty. Spend your time on making sure you have fantastic natural alignments between standards.

This is what your coach will use to grade your project. You’ll want to review this and grade yourself before turning in your project to your coach. This will help ensure the best possible outcome for you.
WORK ON YOUR PROJECT BEFORE MOVING ON
You do not need to submit your project. However, you should complete it before moving to sprint 2. This will be a component of the final portfolio that you submit.
