SPRINT 2
Project Overview
For this project, you’re going to create four fully-developed, original arts integration lesson plans and aligned assessments for each lesson. While you can create the lessons from any idea, I’d recommend you use the curriculum maps you created in Sprint 1 as a reference. You’ve already taken the time to make those standards alignments, so it makes sense that you use four of them to flesh out into full arts integration lessons.
Your project can be in either a PDF or web format (like LiveBinder, See Saw, Blog, etc) with a link to the lessons. No matter what format you choose, you must include the following:
1. Four arts integration lesson plans of your own creation. You may use other lessons for inspiration, but you must source them in your finished work and your lessons may not copy anyone else’s.
2. You can use any format for your lessons that you wish. However, your lessons must each include: 1 content standard and 1 arts standard alignment, a list of materials, an engagement, core lesson sequence and the transitions in between, any extensions or differentiation you plan to use and a list of the assessments you plan to use. Remember: you will most likely address more than one standard in your content and the arts as lessons don’t live in isolation. But you should only pick ONE content standard and ONE arts standard as your focal standards for your lesson. These will be the standards you plan to assess at the end of your lesson.
3. You must also create and include the assessments you plan to use for each lesson. You should include at least 1 diagnostic, 1 formative and 1 summative assessment for each lesson. Be sure these assessments are aligned to the standards you’ve chosen for the lesson and adequately measure what is being asked of students in both the content and the arts standards. Attach the assessments to the end of each lesson and at the bottom of your assessment, label the lesson title the assessment belongs to. This way, we can easily identify which assessment goes with which lesson.
DOWNLOAD THE PROJECT RUBRIC
It’s a good idea to download the rubric that your coach will be using to grade your sprint project submission. Be sure to grade yourself first to help you identify any gaps before your submission.
DOWNLOAD LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE (.doc)
We highly recommend using this lesson plan template to create your lessons. It walks you through each component so you can be sure you include everything you need.
ELEMENTARY SAMPLE LESSON & ASSESSMENT
MIDDLE SCHOOL SAMPLE LESSON & ASSESSMENT
HIGH SCHOOL SAMPLE LESSON & ASSESSMENT
Click above to view a sample arts integration lesson and matching assessments from each grade band – elementary, middle and high. You’ll notice that each sample uses a slightly different format, but contains the essential elements. This is to show you that we are looking for quality of content and tight alignments and that formatting is secondary.
Remember that you will need to create 4 total lessons and 12 total assessments for this project.
WORK ON YOUR PROJECT BEFORE MOVING ON
As an independent track learner, you do not submit this project now. However, you will add it to your final portfolio, so you should work on it before moving on.
